Four make Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame’s 2019 class

Whitted fell in love with basketball while playing at Trask Middle School and was a four-time letterman at Laney. He was a starter at the 1990 McDonald’s All-American Game and is still the all-time leading boys scorer at Laney with 1,554 points. His jersey was retired in 2007, and he was inducted into the Laney Hall of Fame in 2012.

He played college basketball at the University of Tennesse and enjoyed a seven-year professional career with the Dallas Mavericks and in the European League. He later coached in the ABA with the Atlanata Vision and the Wilmington Sea Dawgs.
